New England Color Run!

We were so very clean before! (We were wet too! It poured rain right until the run started then it stopped!)

The D.J. (yep-- it was a party) said that there were 8,000 runners so they had us divided into groups to start a couple hundred at a time.

This is what the 'color stations' look like along the route. (My phone was in a bag and I was running- sorry for the blur.)

Look up this run online and see if there's one near you! It's fun. It's not timed. It's a huge colorful party. And all the proceeds go to charity!

Tacos and Tequilla

Our little party was fun last night!
We've been working our way through alcohol tastings this summer and last night was tequila! I think there ended up begin about 15 people here and we ate delicious things and tasted some yummy tequila. Bryan even made two types of sangrita to go with!
These are the reposado / sangrita tastes.

I made tres leches cupcakes. They were a hit! I've never tried this cake-type as a cupcake and although they were messy they were perfect!
Yummy tacos! Bryan made grilled marinated skirt steak and we made salsa, beans, rice, and then provided all the toppings.
We had a few kinds of Mexican sodas.
This grapefruit soda is actually really delicious!

This was my favorite silver and reposado. I think I heard several people agree with me!
And this was the overall Mezcal winner! So smoky and delicious!

TOMORROW, WE COLOR RUN!

And Talented Too!

Bryan made some yummy bread today in the dutch oven! Doesn't it look perfect?!

Sorry I've been MIA.
What's been happening around here?
I was in a little bus accident on Friday and seriously thought my left ribs were cracked. They're probably not. I can do most normal actions again without wincing. (hooray! because we're doing this awesome thing this weekend)
We saw the Dark Knight Rises on Saturday after feasting on dumplings and taking a stroll down Newbury Street!

Lily and I saw Rolie Polie Guacamole play in a park yesterday. If I can set up a youtube account, I can post some of her amazing dance moves from that concert.
After the concert (which was near where we live) we came back to our house for lunch. Everything she touched was "Ashley's ___whatever___" and I just kept saying 'well, it's mine and Mr. Bryan's.  We share.' to which she responded 'NOOOOOOOO.'
Getting into the logistics behind a successful relationship seemed futile so instead I just argued back (no less futile) with an 'oh yes we do!'

There have been a couple of museum and zoo visits in there... even a new book club... but that's basically it!

We have a fun party coming up on Friday evening! If you're in Boston, join us! If you're too far for the fun, then check in on Saturday for the details! I'll have lots of pictures I'm sure. I'll just say The Three Amigos will be involved! (and I'm still trying to talk Bryan into learning the 'my little buttercup' dance routine for the talent portion of the party but he's a hard sell)

Lily's Got the Moves

We went to see Rollie Polie Guacamole today! She clearly loved it!
Make sure you watch through to her dance!

So Handsome!

My Sweet One.

Take Me to the Sea

(Bryan and Ian play paddle ball while Elizabeth and Nolan watch.)
I spent Saturday napping on a sand bar, then napping at home, then sleeping a full 12 hours last night! What a great weekend!

Pleasure Bay

Lily and I ventured to the beach today! She loves water more than most so this was a great outing for her! We built sand castles, collected rocks and shells, dug a moat around said castle and then filled it with buckets of water. We also ate lunch under the umbrella before packing it all up and taking the 15 minute drive back to her house! I love that there are so many fun free things to do around this city for kiddos (and for me too if we're really being honest).

Knives

Forget everything I said before about making a real adult purchase. My whole chicken pales in comparison to what we've got now. KNIVES! Like real, sharp kitchen knives! Woo Hoo! You don't know how happy sharp knives make me. I can chop, I can slice, I can cut, I can pare... What can't I do which these beauties is the real question?
One day we'll have a whole set of Wusthof knives but for now, these are the three we really thought would cover most of our chopping needs. Need something cut to bits? Send it my way!

Crane Beach

We've tried to make good use of our beach pass this summer and I feel like we're doing a good job. We've been most weekends so far and some people have asked about the sand here since we're used to a light fluffy tiny grained sand in the Gulf of Mexico... I remembered to snap a photo of it today. It's more like tiny tiny pebbles, can you tell from this picture?
We saw Moonrise Kingdom this afternoon after we got home from the beach, and I think I'm in love with that movie. Of course Wes Anderson has a big place in my heart. Many of my favorite films are ones he's done and this one is no exception. Go see it if you haven't already!

Happy Saturday!

Happy Fourth!

We had such a nice, warm, lazy day yesterday!
I made ginger-chiffon cupcakes with key lime curd and lime buttercream! They were yummy! Key lime curd might be my new favorite thing ever.
We spent the early evening eating burger's at John's house and watching things explode on Independence Day.  Then the rest of the evening was spent eating cherries and sipping limoncello and negroni's on Ian's rooftop while watching the fireworks. I really couldn't ask for more most days. What a lovely life.
