Why Hull-O There!

We went back out to Hull island yesterday as Yoni will be moving soon and wanted to have everyone out one last time for a grilling party.

We spent a good amount of time exploring the beach and skipping rocks into the ocean.

Yoni gave us gals a lesson and made true stone-skippers out of each of us before the day was done!

The fish was all super yummy and the company was great too!

It was a perfect way to end the weekend. A truly lovely Sunday!

Thunder!

I was sitting on the sofa eating a freshly baked French Pastry Puff and watching an old movie when I heard what seemed like the loudest clap of thunder I've ever heard! I stopped chewing, threw down my puff, and ran to the window! I was so excited to see pouring rain and lightning!
Rain is probably my favorite weather... but thunder... oh, thunder. I love thunder and have said several times since we moved to Massachusetts how much I miss it. We just don't get thunder storms very often here. (As in we haven't had one since we moved here in August.)
I retrieved my puff and continued to watch the rain. (puff recipe in the Pioneer Woman cookbook)
In the midst of my excitement, I'd almost forgotten that Bryan was out on an interview... on his bike... he was a little soaked when he got back.
I wrote him a story, though. It went something like this: Bryan and his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Bryan had a fever when he woke up and found no prize in his breakfast cereal box. His computer crashed and he lost 5 hours worth of work. He went biking and a rain storm came quickly upon him. He'll probably move to Australia. The End.

Signs of Life

Our garden has begun to grow!
Garlic. (We also did some gorilla gardening and planted garlic in another flower bed near the house... shhh... don't tell!)

Broccoli.

Butter Leaf Lettuce

There was even the threat of snow last week and still the tiny plants seem unphased. I guess the funny gardener we spoke to was right about which things to plant early. Only a few more weeks and we'll be able to plant everything else!

P.A's Lounge may be my new favorite place.

Although, some could argue that any place who hosts a free cupcake night and a Johnny Cash tribute show in the same week could easily win hearts and prizes and wars and lots of other things that can be won...

The Johnny Cash tribute show was super cool with eight local bands all covering Johnny's songs. All the proceeds went to books for prisons so even a cause that was near and dear to ole Johnny's heart.

Now on to free cupcakes. They were delicious. They were beautiful. They were delightful. And they were free! We all left in a complete sugar coma.
Nolan and his plain jane with sprinkles
Elizabeth had kind of already eaten hers by the time I asked for a picture

yes, he knows he looks a bit crazy. I told him. But cupcakes can do that to a person

Ahh, and my favorite one of the night. Peanut Butter and Jelly from Sugar Bakery in West Roxbury. It sounds iffy but it was oh so good! We each had at least four cupcakes... that's really too many cupcakes at once.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

That's right! We started a little vegetable garden today! How exciting! We're making beer and growing our own food... we'll probably be moving out to some kind of hippie compound soon too so don't be surprised.

There's still threat of frost here so we were only able to build the raised flower bed, fill it with dirt, and plant a couple of early season items. We planted garlic, broccoli, and butter leaf lettuce! We'll be able to plant the rest of our veggies mid-May.

We started our day at Home Depot to get the lumber and the soil. (We got all of the green bags for one cent each!!! It wasn't entered into the computer properly and it saved us like $60!! -the cashier checked on it so we weren't trying to pull a sly one or anything) We deduced that Jesus must have wanted us to have a garden!

I dug out a 2 ft by 7 ft space in front of our house:

Bryan built the raised bed frame:

Then we added the top soil and the organic potting material:

We mixed the two, filled it in, and planted our veggies!
How exciting! We've never really tried to grow anything so we may kill everything... and we aren't at all familiar with the growing season in New England... but we asked a few people today and feel confident that we'll get a few edible items!

It was a PILLOW FIGHT!!!!!!

It all started innocently enough. Lots of people just standing around, sitting on the grass, lounging with books and groups of friends.

Then suddenly: An Air Horn!

And the battle ensued!

Pillows were sprung from bookbags, purses, picnic baskets, shopping bags... It was mayhem! It was stranger pummeling stranger - in a lighthearted way, of course - and it was amazing! White pillows glistened in the sun. Feathers and stuffing rained down like manna!

I think I saw that 70 cities participated in National Pillow Fight Day last Saturday. I stayed a safe distance from the mob, as I really only wanted photos (Well, if I'm being perfectly honest, I didn't want strangers touching my bed pillows. You know how that goes.)

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

Martha and I dyed Easter Eggs on Friday morning!

She was excellent at peeling and eating the ones that were accidentally dropped and cracked. I think she ate about three hard boiled eggs in all, which is kind of a lot of eggs for a two year old...
